What Is Abyssal Conquest?
Abyssal Conquest is a rails shooter starring Celeste that plays entirely in your browser. If you've played Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, you know the format: you're on rails, enemies come at you, and you manage your aim, burst timing, and resources to survive. Abyssal Conquest takes that core and builds a full game around it with hand-crafted boss encounters, a progression system, and competitive endgame.
This isn't a tech demo or a proof of concept - it's a playable game with multiple stages, a campaign flow, an equipment system, and an endgame mode designed for leaderboard competition. Open the link and you're playing within seconds.
Boss Fights That Demand Strategy
Every stage ends with a boss encounter, and every boss plays differently. These aren't damage sponges - they have phases, mechanics, and patterns you need to learn:
- Abyss Leviathan: Drags the fight underwater. The boss submerges and leaves behind a churning mass of darkness with glowing sigil nodes rising to the surface. Hit them in sequence while the undertow shifts the field around you
- Golden Colossus: A towering lock-barrier monument. You can't just shoot it - you need to break down side pylons, shatter seal bands, and crack open the center corridor before you can reach the core
- Emerald Serpent: Fast, evasive, and vocal. This boss taunts you with voice lines while weaving through your shots. Stage select even has a dedicated voice line for this one
- Null Frame: Invulnerability windows and afterimage clones. The real boss hides among decoys, and you have split seconds to identify and hit the right target before the window closes
Each boss has its own music theme, visual identity, and audio cues that telegraph attacks. Learning the tells is how you go from surviving to dominating.
How Combat Works
Burst Skills
Your burst meter fills as you get kills and collect pickups. Celeste's avatar on the HUD shows your charge state - when the meter is full, unleash a devastating burst skill for massive damage. Timing your burst for boss vulnerability windows is the difference between a clean kill and a failed run.
Equipment Loadouts
Before each stage, you choose your gear. Equipment modifies your damage, defense against debuffs, and other stats. Different bosses punish different weaknesses, so your loadout matters. Running the Leviathan stage with no debuff resistance is a bad time.
Support Pickups
Take down elite enemies and they drop support items:
- Binding Serum: Heals you and starts a short regeneration effect
- Master's Gel: Tightens your aim spread for precision shots
- Desire Nectar: Instantly charges your burst meter and boosts burst gain rate
- Yielding Sap: Temporarily amplifies all your damage output
Only one pickup can exist on the field at a time, and they rotate in order. Plan your elite kills around which support item you need most.
Debuffs
Bosses and elites hit you with debuffs that slow your damage, reduce accuracy, or mess with your timing. Your equipment loadout determines how much these hurt. Build for the boss you're fighting, not just raw damage.
Infinite Boss Rush
Done with the campaign? Infinite Boss Rush is where the real competition starts. Toggle it from the title screen and you're thrown straight into boss fights - no trash waves, no downtime. Beat one boss, immediately face the next. Clear all bosses and you start a new lap with the difficulty ratcheting up.
The HUD tracks your bosses cleared, current lap, and running score. When your run finally ends, you get a results screen with your final stats and the option to submit your score to the global leaderboard.
Global Leaderboards
Link your Twitch account (press T on the title screen) to submit your Infinite Boss Rush scores to the global leaderboard. See how you stack up against other players. Top ranks get prize labels. Streamers can display the live leaderboard directly on stream using a dedicated OBS overlay that auto-updates with subscriber badges and rank indicators.
AC-130 Gunship Mode
Sometimes you don't want to be on the ground. AC-130 mode puts you in an aerial gunship with thermal vision and a rotary cannon. The entire visual style shifts to a military thermal camera feed while you rain fire from above. It's a completely different gameplay feel from the ground campaign - and yes, kills still count toward your score.
Original Soundtrack and Voice Lines
Every boss has a unique music theme composed specifically for their encounter. The soundtrack draws from Dark Souls and Elden Ring-style orchestral arrangements adapted to each boss's personality. Beyond music, bosses have voice lines, intro sequences, and contextual audio cues that make each fight feel like an event, not just a health bar.
The audio system includes stage-specific ambient themes, combat SFX, burst skill audio, and UI sound effects. Mute and audio controls are accessible from the in-game nav bar.

Ask Celeste
Q: Is this an official NIKKE game?
A: Nope - this is an independent game with original characters, art, music, and mechanics. It's inspired by the rails shooter format that NIKKE made popular, but everything in Abyssal Conquest is original. I'm the star, obviously. No affiliation with SHIFT UP or Level Infinite.
Q: I'm stuck on a boss. Any tips?
A: Every boss telegraphs their attacks with audio and visual cues - learn those first. Equip gear that counters their specific debuffs. Save your burst for vulnerability windows instead of spamming it. And grab Desire Nectar pickups when you can - that instant burst charge has saved more runs than I can count.
Q: How do I get on the leaderboard?
A: Press T on the title screen to link your Twitch account. Then play Infinite Boss Rush and your score gets submitted when the run ends. Top scores show up on the global leaderboard, and streamers can display it live on stream with the OBS overlay. Show me what you've got, onichan.
